KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain has said that he has not deserted President Asif Ali Zardari despite several attempts made to pit the MQM and Pakistan People’s Party against each other.

According to a press release issued on Sunday, he told a delegation of the People’s Youth Organisation’s United Kingdom chapter that `several’ conspiracies had been hatched over the past five years to end the PPP-MQM alliance but he had not left the president for the sake of democracy.

“We are democratic people and will continue to play our role for strengthening democracy,” he said.

Mr Hussain appreciated the People’s Youth Organisation’s workers and leaders for expressing solidarity with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and the delegation expressed the hope that the cooperation between the two parties would continue.
