HYDERABAD, Dec 15: The 16th All Pakistan Inter-University Boxing Championship 2012-13, organised by the Directorate of Sports, Sindh Agriculture University Tandojam in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission, started on Friday.

Prof Dr Shamasuddin Tunio, dean faculty of crop production, was the chief guest at the opening ceremony.

Peshawar University, Superior University Lahore, University of Central Punjab, Karachi University, Islamia University Bahawalpur, Punjab University, Govt College University Lahore, Islamia International University Islamabad, Sindh University Jamshoro, Mehran University of Engineering and Technology Jamshoro, University of Lahore and Sindh Agriculture University Tandojam are taking part in the event.

Boxers who won their bouts and qualified for the semi-finals of the 49kg category are: M. Mohsin, Shahzeb, Abbas Ali and Israr Shah.

Those who qualified for the last-four from the 52kg category are: Halar Ali Qambrani, Jehangir and Maqsoodul Hassan.

From the 56kg category, Asadullah Bughio, Abdul Ghafoor, Rehan Sarwar and Faisal Shah qualified for the semi-finals.

S.M. Hussain and Hamza Fayaz qualified for the last-four stage in the 60kg competition.

In the 64kg, M. Zubair, M. Awais, Syed Jan and Hashim qualified for the semi-finals.

In the 69kg category, Usman Ahmed, Ghulam Hyder, Usman and Zain qualified for the pre-finals.

Zulqarnain and Raja Shahzeb qualified for the semi-finals in the 74kg competition. Roffus Zulficar, Tahir Khalil, M. Sufiyan and Abi Jozi reached the 81kg semi-finals.

Shahbaz Saleem reached the 91kg semi-final while in the 91 plus kg, Qasim Khan proceeded to the semi-final.
