CELLPHONE snatching, dacoity, extortion and kidnappings for ransom have become common in Karachi. Law-enforcement agencies have failed to stop these crimes. Targeted killings in the metropolitan city also continue and are yet unstoppable.

Recently a friend of mine was coming out of his office in Clifton near Boating Basin when muggers took away his mobile phone, cash, watch and credit cards. He went to the Clifton police station near Park Towers to register an FIR. The police constable advised him to write an application in Urdu. It is good that Urdu is given preference, but I hope that translators are present in police stations if anyone writes application in English so that he/she can translate it into Urdu.

My friend told me that the policeman did not ask him about anything regarding the incident. He even didn’t bother to ask what the muggers looked like, which mobile phone they took away, and how much cash was in his wallet.

This is disappointing.

Height of a broken and careless society. Somehow, the law enforcement agencies, the govt. has accepted all this as PART N PARCEL of Karachi. This is so not how things should be. Reason such activities are flourishing in Karachi is simply because the govt is not at all serious in curbing crimes at any level. My sympathies goes out to all affected brothers n sisters out there! Let us not blame the government for our pit falls. We the Karachiates are equally responsible for what ever is been going on .no voice has ever been raised from our civil society; the law enforcing agencies have gone from bad to worst. Intelligence have totally failed, Rangers could not curb the crime as a matter of fact the crime as risen up. The city is controlled by all kind of mafias. No law and order. Total chaos. Total anarchy, total collapse of the system. We have become so insensitive that basically we really don?t care..... The bottom line is, it is not what Karachi can do for its people, and it is what people do for Karachi....

Rehman Malik has done a comendable job of ensuring that law and order remains intact in the country, especially Karachi. Unfortunately, we haven't supported him enough to help him achieve his total goal to turn Karachi into Singapore or NYC. We should rally behind our government and especially able leaders like Rehman Malik in times like this..

These crimes are committed due to economic circumstances. If the people pay their Zakat and the government honestly dispenses state funds into economic development, the problems plauging Pakistan can easily resolved. So let's not blame the government, as they are only a reflection of the people they serve. When the people are corrupt, their representatives in political office will be corrupt. Let's reform ourselves and the individual Zardari inside each of us.

The people of Karachi are suffering, because the criminals are in power and for evil to prevail, it is the good men who are equally responsible for beingt silent.

People who represent Karachi are in the Sindh assembly. Have you ever heard any one from our chosen city spoke about the growing anarchy? Why these people are quite. Irregardless of they are Mohajirs or Nom Mohajirs. Killing is taking place in the city of Karachi and that counts
