Five health centres rebuilt

GHALANAI, Nov 24: Five community health centres have been reconstructed and refurbished under the Fata Child Health Project (FCHP) with the financial support of USAID in different areas of Mohmand Agency.

A representative of FCHP told Dawn here on Saturday that two community health centres were reconstructed in Pandialai tehsil, two in Ambar tehsil and one in Safi tehsil.

He said that the project had been working with the objective to strengthen the health system in the militancy-hit areas of Fata and improve access to maternal, newborn and child health, immunisation and nutrition services.

In Mohmand Agency, about two dozens of basic health units and community health centres have been destroyed in militant activities. —Correspondent

Doctor’s suspension ordered

PESHAWAR, Nov 24: The home and tribal affairs department has directed the administration of the DHQ hospital Mardan to suspend a doctor on charges of sexual harassment. It also ordered to conduct an inquiry against the doctor.

According to a press release issued here on Saturday, a radiologist Dr Tariq Anwar conducted ultrasonography of a woman in the DHQ hospital Mardan on October 31.According to the earlier report of the victim she was examined by the radiologist in isolation, who ordered her mother and the midwife to go out of the examination room.

The doctor concerned attempted to examine the area below her abdomen which she didn’t allow and got agitated against this unethical act on the part of the doctor.

Following the incident, relatives of the woman also beat up the accused. They also blocked the road to protest over the inhuman act of the doctor. —Bureau Report

Dr Kamal’s death condoled

TIMERGARA, Nov 24: PPP, Lower Dir chapter, on Saturday expressed profound grief and sorrow over the sad demise of prominent social worker and CEO of Shaheed Bhutto Foundation Dr Mohammad Kamal who breathed his last the other day in Peshawar due to cardiac arrest.

In a statement issued here, district president Khurshid Ali Khan advocate, general secretary Khadim Jan, Senator Ahmad Hassan Khan and party founding member Dr Mohammad Tahir expressed grief and shock over the death of Dr Mohammad KamalPaying rich tributes to late Dr Kamal they said his death was a loss not only to his family and friends but also to the civil society of Pakistan, Shaheed Bhutto Foundation and the intellectual face of PPP.

They said Dr Kamal had made tremendous sacrifices for the cause of social and economic uplift of the deprived segments of society. —Correspondent

Lakki elders join new group

LAKKI MARWAT, Nov 24: The elders of Janabad locality of Lakki city have joined an independent group led by former union council nazim Ishfaq Meenakhel, which is expected to change local politics in the next general elections.

The elders, including Malik Jan Mohammad, Ameer Jan Khan, Latifur Rehman, Hukam Jan and others along with their supporters made the announcement at a public meeting organised by the Ishfaq Meenakhel group here on Saturday.

They said the traditional politicians had failed to resolve problems of people and develop the area. They said in view of the failure of the elected representatives there was the need to support and strengthen the Ishfaq group to change the local politics.

Mr Ishfaq said public representatives did not pay heed to resolving problems of people. He alleged the lawmakers had started work on petty uplift schemes few months ahead of next elections to grab the votes. —Correspondent

Dera blast condemned

PESHAWAR, Nov 24: The governor and chief minister condemned the killing of innocent people in a suicide attack in Dera Ismail Khan on Saturday and termed it extremely cowardly act on part of its planners.

In their separate statements here, Governor Barrister Masood Kausar and CM Ameer Haider Hoti said targeting the innocent people was un-Islamic and inhuman act. They said children were also killed in the blast vowing that the government would never bow to terrorists.

They said Muharram taught lessons of tolerance, peace, love and religious harmony but the terrorist acts were live example that terrorists had no religion, belief and they were bent upon bloodshed and destruction of public and private properties.

The governor directed the commissioner of Dera Ismail Khan to take care of the injured people and ensure provision of proper medical treatment to them. Mr Hoti also expressed the resolve to continue fight against the anti-state elements. —Bureau Report
