LAHORE, Nov 4: A PPP leader has advised the PML-N leadership to dissolve the Punjab government if it wants the federal government to hold general elections immediately.

“The federal government is ready to hold elections if the PML-N dissolves the Punjab Assembly. Some 61 per cent of Pakistan’s population lives in Punjab,” special assistant to the prime minister on political affairs Fawad Chaudhry said on Sunday. The popularity of the PML-N, he said, would be fully exposed in the elections.

Fawad said formal contact with the PML-N to finalise name of interim prime minister would be made by January. He rejected the PML-N’s allegations regarding the PPP’s governance as a ‘political rhetoric’ and said the people would judge through ballot which party would have the confidence of people.

Meanwhile, Governor Sardar Latif Khosa said the Sharif brothers should quit the politics after the verdict in the Asghar Khan case. He said Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif was no more eligible to hold the office after the apex court’s decision ‘for their role in stealing the PPP’s mandate after taking money from the ISI’.
