CHAKWAL, Nov 4: Six people were killed and 30 others injured when a bus overturned on Motorway in the Salt Range on Sunday morning.

According to police sources, about 48 people were going from Nowshera to Raiwind to attend the annual religious congregation there.

The accident took place near Pir Khara shrine when the brakes of the bus failed and it smashed into a boulder.

The deceased included Fazal Haq, Taj Mohammad, Mohammad Aslah Khan, Mohammad Arif and Syed Kamal Shah, all residents of Nowshera.

Motorway and Kallar Kahar police personnel and workers of the Frontier Works Organisation took the bodies and the injured to the district headquarters hospital.

“We received six bodies and 30 injured,” Dr Shahbaz told Dawn.

He said that eight people were critically injured and had been referred to Rawalpindi.

“We are investigating the cause of the accident,” a police officer said. He said the bus was in poor condition.

“Apparently the bus was in high speed at a place where it should have been driven with extra care. The driver lost control and it rammed into a rock before overturning,” he said.

A bus carrying students met with an accident in the same area last year, killing 30 of them.
