LAHORE, Sept 17: Syed Raghib Abbas Shah has been appointed chairman Wapda, says a notification issued by the Establishment Division on Monday after the nomination was approved by Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf.

Mr Shah, who was serving as Member (Water) prior to his elevation to the post of chairman, joined the Water and Power Development Authority as junior engineer (civil) in 1974 after his graduation from the NED University Karachi.

He is the first chairman of Wapda who belongs to Sindh. Mr Shah, the 20th Wapda chairman, has 38 years of experience in construction and maintenance and management of irrigation, drainage and hydropower projects.

APP adds: Mr Shah has replaced Shakil Durrani who relinquished the charge on Sept 8, after completing his five-year tenure as chairman.
