FORMAL talks between the Shahinshah of Iran, who is in Kabul on a good offices mission to improve the relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan, and King Zahir Shah began at the Gul Khana Palace in Kabul yesterday.

According to Kabul Radio monitored in Karachi, the talks … lasted two hours.

Also present at the talks were Afghan Prime Minister Sardar Mohammad Daud, Afghan Deputy Prime Minister Ali Mohammad, Afghan Foreign Minister Sardar Mohammad Naim, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aram and Iranian Ambassador to Kabul Zulfiqari.

The talks are expected to be resumed today before the Iranian Emperor begins a tour of Afghanistan.

He is expected to return to Teheran from Kandhar on Tuesday.

A Reuter message from Kabul said: “The Shah of Iran told the Afghanistan National Assembly in a nine-minute address on Friday that unity and cooperation among countries of this region would have economic benefits and be a guarantee for peace….”—Special Representative

Bhutto’s call to work new Constitution

LARKANA: Now that democracy has been restored in the country it is incumbent on us to preserve it sincerely and honestly. This was stated by Mr Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, Central Minister for Industries and Natural Resources.

Replying to the address of welcome, presented by the citizens of Kambar, 13 miles from here yesterday, Mr Bhutto warned the people to beware of those selfish politicians who want the abrogation of the new Constitution because they want to create chaos in the country once again.—Correspondent
