LAKKI MARWAT, July 25: People continued to protest prolonged loadshedding in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and adjoining tribal areas on Wednesday by blocking roads.

In Lakki Marwat, villagers converged on Lakki-Mianwali Road in front of the District Headquarters Complex, Tajazai suspending traffic between Bannu and Mianwali for around two hours.

Protesters belonging to Abdulkhel, Kattakhel, Eesakkhel, Shah Hasankhel and adjoining villages said excessive power cuts had stressed them out by bringing their life to a virtual halt.

Representatives of the protesters later met district coordination officer Nisar Ahmad in his office and apprised him of the locals’ misery.

The DCO assured them that he would take up the matter with the relevant Pesco officials for corrective measures.

The protesters later cleared the road.

In Kohat, women blocked main road in front of the residence of district coordination officer here on Wednesday to protest against suspension of electricity in their locality.

The protesting women and children were carrying stones in their hands and demanding installation of new transformer and restoration of electricity. They said that there was no water in their houses due to delay in repair of the faulty transformer of their locality.

The protesters dispersed after Pesco SDO Wajidullah and DSP Ehsanullah assured them that the Pesco officials would do their duty and install the transformer within three days.

Meanwhile, residents also staged a protest in KDA Township against acute shortage of drinking water here on Wednesday.

In Ghalanai, Mohmand Agency, power protesters on Wednesday blocked Peshawar-Bajaur Road in Ekkaghund Bazaar for around two hours.

Shouting slogans against the government over failure to provide them with smooth electric supply, they burnt old tyres on the road.

The protest led to long queues of vehicles, public transport and goods trucks on the road.

Protesters later dispersed peacefully after Wapda and administration officials said they would try their level best to ease the crisis.
