KARACHI, June 20: A joint team of police and Rangers will conduct a survey of the city in pursuance of the plan to dismantle street barriers erected illegally by people.

In this regard, a meeting of the police and Rangers officials was held at the Central Police Office on Wednesday.

The joint survey team is being constituted following the provincial government’s order to remove such barriers. Participants in the meeting reviewed law and order, discussed various law-enforcement steps and decided to implement a joint contingency plan to control the situation.

It was decided that more police and Rangers personnel would be deployed in sensitive and violence-prone areas. Joint pickets would be set up and intelligence reports  exchanged, it was also decided. In addition to carrying out coordinated action in violence-prone areas, Rangers and police officials were directed to convene joint meetings. The participants in the meeting decided that the Rangers would provide swift back-up to police in case of any untoward incident.

Sindh police chief Mushtaq Shah, Rangers Director General Maj-Gen Rizwan Akhtar and other senior officials attended the meeting.—PPI
