Two Afghans killed

ISLAMABAD, March 24: Two Afghans were killed and four others injured on Sunday in an ambush near an airfield used by US forces in Afghanistan’s eastern Khost province, the Afghan Islamic Press reported.

Khost police force chief of security, Sour Gul, was in the ambushed vehicle but escaped unhurt, witnesses said.

The attack occurred two kilometres northeast of the city near the airfield, where US troops are based. Gul is a close associate of Khost governor Mohammad Ibrahim.

The city lies 70 kilometres east of the Shahi Kot valley where US-led forces earlier this month concluded their 17-day Operation Anaconda offensive against diehard Taliban and Al Qaeda fighters.—AFP
