KARACHI: Police on Sunday claimed to have arrested four suspects who had allegedly martyred a police constable, Irfan Khan, during an encounter in the New Karachi Industrial Area on Jan 14.

“New Karachi Industrial Area police on Saturday night detained four suspects identified as Nadir Shah, Fahad, Arman alias Mani and Raju,” said a police spokesperson.

Two pistols used in the murder and two stolen motorbikes were also recovered from their custody.

During initial investigations, the held suspects ‘confessed’ to having killed the policeman. They stated that they had looted some shops in the area and had gathered at Eidgah ground in sector-5-F of New Karachi to distribute the loot among themselves.

In the meantime, a patrolling police party tried to intercept them owing to which, they opened straight fire on them. As a result, the young constable, Irfan Khan, sustained two bullet wounds and died.

The police also claimed to have recovered some mobile phones from their custody, which were snatched from people. “The suspects are habitual criminals and their further crime record is being checked,” the spokesperson said.

The police have registered a case against them over the possession of illegal weapons and launched an investigation into it.
