ISLAMABAD: The government on Monday rescheduled the launch date of e-commerce policy from December 23 to third week of January 2020 in a bid to resolve all issues including the establishment of international payment gateway in Pakistan.

In a meeting chaired by Adviser to the Prime Minister on Commerce Abdul Razak Dawood, the e-commerce policy implementation and other issues were discussed with stakeholders from the public and private sectors. The meeting deliberated on the progress of establishment of international payment gateway in Pakistan as well as taxation and ease of doing business with reference to e-commerce sector.

CEO National Information Technology Board (NITB) said that his team is working on a suitable arrangement to engage a foreign payment provider company willing to establish Pakistan’s own international payment gateway.

That payment gateway will be pre-integrated with Paypal, Visa card, Master Card and Alipay. The most important feature of this payment infrastructure will be security of the data generated by financial transactions carried out in Pakistan.
