PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police have directed the relevant officials to replicate the traffic management model, which has resulted into considerable decrease in traffic problems in Hazara division.

A statement issued here on Thursday said that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police chief, Dr Mohammad Naeem Khan, had issued this directive to all the regional police officers and capital city police officer, Peshawar, through a circular.

It said that the citizen traffic management committee, including Hazara police and representatives of the private educational institutions, traders’ associations, bar associations, transporters union and media and civil society, had presented several recommendations for streamlining traffic in Hazara.

The recommendations include denial of petrol to motorcyclists not wearing helmet, banning underage motorcyclists, special focus on discouraging addicts from driving public vehicles and one-wheeling.

The statement said that the Hazara police by implementing the committee’s recommendations on traffic initiatives charge-sheeted a large number of violators and sent them behind bars. It said that implementation of recommendations led to a visible change in the region’s traffic, which was appreciated by the local people.

It said that the KP police chief had decided to replicate the Hazara traffic model in rest of the province and issued a special circular directing the officials to introduce the same initiatives in their respective regions.

It has also been mentioned in the circular that bringing improvement in the unruly traffic and putting halt to traffic accidents are the longstanding demands of general public.
