LANDI KOTAL: Khyber district police officer Mohammad Hussain has called upon the newly-trained traffic police squad to improve their performance in regulating traffic on all the main roads, and warned of action against those who would fail to discharge their responsibilities.

Chairing a meeting of traffic wardens at Shah Kas on Wednesday, the DPO urged them to adopt a courteous attitude with all the drivers, but not to spare those who violated the traffic rules.

Mr Hussain asked them to ensure smooth traffic flow not only on the major roads but also in the business centres of Bara, Landi Kotal and Jamrud, and take prompt action against those responsible for wrong parking at marketplaces.

He, however, insisted that facilitating the transporters and owners of private cars was the prime responsibility of traffic police. He asked the wardens to discourage underage driving.

The traffic wardens had earlier informed the police officer that only 10 traffic personnel were available to regulate traffic on 45km Peshawar-Torkham highway which was impossible for them.

They demanded additional 30 traffic police for regulation of traffic on the highway along with provision of two mobile vans for regular patrolling.
