ISLAMABAD: The capital administration on Friday imposed a ban on sale, purchase and installation of High Intensity Discharge (HID) lights by vehicle owners as it causes road accidents, sources told Dawn.

Earlier, a similar notification was issued on Thursday by the District Administration but was withdrawn later on, the officials said. The ban was imposed with immediate effect for a period of two months, the fresh notification said.

The sources said the decision had been after a number of complaints received by Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Hamza Shafqaat against the use and installation of the HID in vehicles.

Such HID lights blind driver of the vehicle coming from the opposition side which resulted into accidents, they said, adding substandard HID lights also available in markets often resulted into short circuit and causes fire in the vehicle.

In response to the complaints, the DC imposed a ban on use and installation of HID lights in vehicles for the next two months.

Notification issued in this regard said that it was brought to the notice that HID lights are installed as headlights in the vehicle which causes trouble for traffic coming from opposite direction and are the reason for many fatal accidents.
