CHAKWAL: A divorced woman was shot dead allegedly by her teenage cousin for refusing to quit her job and getting remarried, police said on Saturday.

The incident occurred in Khairpur village located in the area of Kallar Kahar police. The suspected killer is a student of 10th class at a government school.

The mother of the deceased told the police that the suspect entered their house and opened fire on her daughter, killing her on the spot.

However, sources told Dawn that the woman was shot dead by her maternal uncle, the father of the student named in the FIR.

“As the man is a serving assistant sub-inspector in the Chakwal police, he put forward his teenage son so that his job would not be affected and his son could be pardoned by the complainant,” a notable of the village told Dawn.

A few years ago, the diseased had married a police constable from whom she had three children. Her husband divorced her a year ago over domestic disputes.
