MUZAFFARABAD: Six people, including a woman, were killed and another five injured when a jeep they were travelling in plunged hundreds of feet down a narrow hilly road near here on Monday, police said.

The vehicle was coming to Garhi Dupatta from the mountainous Harryala Gujran village when it went out of the driver’s control near a spot known as Munday Bandi and plunged into a ravine.

As a result, five passengers, identified as Sabir, Sain, Sadiq, Saeed and Sakina Bibi died on the spot while Farooq succumbed to his injuries in Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Hospital.

The remaining five injured, who were admitted to the hospital, were identified as Irshad Bibi and her daughter Mahnoor, Danish, Fazal Deen and Shahzad.

Meanwhile, AJK Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider has expressed grief and sorrow over the loss of lives in the accident.

According to a press release, while seeking report from the Deputy Inspector General of Police for Traffic about the accident, the prime minister also expressed anger at the alleged failure of the authorities concerned to check overloading and fitness of vehicles.

The prime minister offered condolences to the bereaved families and directed the hospital authorities to provide best possible treatment to the injured.
