The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Wednesday arrested Ghulam Sarwar Bugti, an executive engineer serving in the Balochistan government's Public Health and Engineering (PHE) department, for alleged embezzlement worth Rs 44.6 million in state funds.

A NAB spokesman told DawnNewsTV that Bugti, in connivance with other PHE employees had embezzled government funds, causing a Rs44.6m loss to the national exchequer in 2017.

NAB Balochistan Director General Abid Javed issued arrest warrants for Bugti, following which the suspect was apprehended and shifted to the accountability watchdog's regional office, the spokesman said.

Bugti will be produced before an accountability court so that investigators can obtain his remand, the official said, adding that further investigations are underway.
