ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office on Monday dismissed a video clip, which went viral on social media showing beating and murder of a Pakistani student Usama Ahmed Khan at a Chinese university, as “fake news” and urged all to exercise caution and avoid sensationalism.
The Foreign Office spokesman said that in fact Usama, who was studying at Shenyang Jiazhu University in Liaoning province, had committed suicide.
“Upon receipt of information, the ambassador of Pakistan to China deputed an officer of the embassy to visit Shenyang where he met students and faculty of the university as well as police authorities. Throughout this process, he remained in close contact with the family of the deceased and got full support from Chinese authorities,” the FO spokesman said in a statement.
He said the mission was in close coordination with the family and would send the body to Pakistan on Monday night.
“The video being circulated on the social media is fake and is not that of Usama Ahmed Khan,” the spokesman said.
