KARACHI: Rejecting the result of Sunday’s by-elections on Karachi’s NA-247 and PS-111 constituencies, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan said on Monday that it was the defeat of the Election Commission of Pakistan’s Result Transmission System (RTS) and not of the party.

The MQM-P lost the by-elections to the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, but it alleged that its candidates were defeated because of rigging.

Speaking at a press conference here, party leaders Khwaja Izharul Hasan and Faisal Subzwari, however, stopped short of accusing the PTI or any other institution of indulging in rigging in favour of the ruling party’s candidates.

Khwaja Izhar said the party’s coordination committee at a meeting held on Monday discussed the July 25 general elections and subsequent by-elections as well as implementation of an agreement with the PTI.

He said that the MQM-P had forged a coalition with the PTI for solving people’s problems.
