SHANGLA/BATTAGRAM: Five persons, including three army soldiers, were killed in separate road accidents in Shangla and Battagram districts on Saturday.

Police said three army personnel were killed and two injured when a car fell into a deep ravine on the Karakoram Highway near Bisham.

Dr Sanaullah, medical officer at tehsil headquarters hospital, Bisham, told Dawn that three bodies of army personnel and two injured were brought to the hospital. He said the injured personnel were referred to Ayub Medical Complex Abbottabad because of their critical condition.

Police said the accident occurred near Chakai checkpost on Karakoram Highway. The car was going from Gilgit to Rawalpindi.

The locals and Frontier Works Organization officials took part in the rescue work and retrieved the bodies and the injured from the ravine and shifted them to hospital.

In Battagram, a schoolboy and a man were killed when a private school van collided with a trailer at Gat Mor area.

According to SHO Waris Khan, a van carrying children to school in the morning collided with a trailer. As a result, a student, Talha Mujeed, 10, and the van’s conductor, Bilal, were killed on the spot.

He said the trailer was on its way to Gilgit, and its driver, Sher Ghyaz, had been arrested, while van driver escaped from the scene.

After the accident, locals rushed to the spot and shifted the dead to hospital.
