LAHORE: A sessions court on Thursday sought a reply from the Model Town station house officer (SHO) on a petition seeking registration of a case against ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif for his alleged scandalous speeches against the judiciary.

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s local leader Tanzeela Imran had filed the petition and pleaded through a counsel that Sharif in his recent speech in Abbotabad tried to incite people against state institutions. She contended that the speeches of the disqualified prime minister amounted to high treason.

She pointed out that an application for the registration of an FIR against Mr Sharif was filed with the Model Town police but the SHO was reluctant to take action [on it]. The petitioner asked the court to order the SHO to lodge an FIR against Sharif on her application.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Fayaz Ahmad Buttar adjourned hearing till Dec 2 and sought a report from the SHO.
