RAWALPINDI: Two people were killed and one was injured in separate disputes in the Racecourse and Kallar Syedan areas on Sunday, police said.

A 28-year-old man was shot and killed, allegedly by a cousin, over a marriage dispute in Kallar Syedan.

Afrasiyab Akhtar and his stepfather Pervez Akhtar were travelling to Soan when their van was stopped by his cousin, who was accompanied by two other men.

Pervez Akhtar said in an FIR that after Afrasiyab stopped the van, his cousin opened fire at him and Afrasiab died on the spot. A shopkeeper, Ikhlaq Ahmed, heard the gunshots and rushed to the scene, and was also shot and injured.

Police said raids to arrest the suspected killer were underway. They said the suspect wanted to marry Afrasiyab’s wife.

They said the injured victim was taken to the Holy Family Hospital and is said to have been in stable condition.

Separately, a landlord was allegedly shot by his tenant over a monetary dispute in the Racecourse police area on Sunday, police said.

Mirza Sajjad Haider, 50, was shot and killed in a dispute over Rs15,000, which the tenant had paid in advance rent and wanted back because he no longer wanted to rent the property.

Police said the suspect had paid Haider, but then refused to rent the house and wanted his payment returned. When Haider refused, the suspect shot him and fled.
