LAHORE: The Lahore Pool Rounds of the 13th Dawn in Education Spelling Bee Competition will begin today.

According to a release, as many as 157 schools from Lahore, Sialkot, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Okara, Sahiwal, Sargodha, Kasur, Mianwali, Muridke, Daska, Phalia, Narowal, Kharian, Wazirabad and Sheikhupura are participating in this round at the Ali Institute of Education, Lahore.

The competition is going to be conducted in three age groups. The pool rounds for the age groups 9 – 11, 12 – 14 and 15-17 will be held from Oct 24 to 27.

The Lahore pool winners will compete with the Multan and Faisalabad [pool winners] in the regional championship which will be held on Oct 28.

Three students in each age group from Multan and Faisalabad have already qualified for the Lahore championship. Forty-five schools participated in the Multan round which was held on Oct 11 and 12, and 35 schools took part in the Faisalabad pool round held on Oct 5.

The competition is being held by The Dawn Media Group. Judges are provided by the Oxford University Press.

The national championship is scheduled to be held on Nov 14 in Lahore, where the regional champions of the three age groups, from Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad are going to compete amongst each other.

Over 7,000 children from the ages of 9 to 17 from all over Pakistan are participating in the 13th Dawn in Education National Spelling Bee Competition 2017.
