LAHORE: The Queen’s Baton, part of the Queen’s Baton Relay (QBR) for the 2018 Commonwealth Games, will be brought to Lahore most probably on Oct 1 or 2.

A meeting, for arranging a programme for the Baton, by the organising committee of the Pakistan Olympic Association was held at the POA offices here on Wednesday. Shaukat Javed, chairman of the committee, presided over the meeting.

Next year’s Commonwealth Games are scheduled to be staged on Gold Coast, Australia from April 4-15. While highlighting the importance of QBR, Shaukat assured the participants of the meeting that the programme would befittingly be organised based on the experience of the last two programmes of QBR held in Lahore.

In this regard, Shaukat said, coordination between the departments concerned would be ensured, adding the QBR programme would most probably take place on Oct 1 or 2, 2017 in view of Ashura.

POA secretary general highlighted the salient features of the programme in a presentation. After through discussion it was decided that POA secretariat would be responsible for overall coordination while the event arrangements would be supervised by various sub-committees to be assigned.
