PESHAWAR: Women workers at Peshawar on Thursday formed an alliance to work for safer workplaces.

The women entrepreneurs and workers employed in the public, private and industrial sectors formed a 25-member Women Workers Alliance.

According to a statement, the alliance was mandated to collectively negotiate on behalf of the women workers with employers, relevant departments and the legislature for better and safer workplaces.

The group’s formation has been facilitated by the United Rural Development Organisation with the support of Trust for Democratic Education and Accountability – Free and Fair Election Network, and financial support of the embassy of the Netherland in Islamabad.

The two-year project titled ‘Women Action for Better Workplaces’ is being implemented in the four provincial capitals and Islamabad. The group would meet on monthly basis and discuss and resolve problems women face at work. Women will help find solutions to one another’s problems during their meetings.
