SHANGLA: Landslide killed two labourers while a fifth grader died when he fell from a wooden bridge into Khan Khwar river here on Thursday.

According to police, three labourers were busy in construction work on a roadside at Lawdar area of Shangla when a landslide hit them. The residents retrieved the injured persons and took them to the district headquarter hospital, Alpuri, where two of them identified as Bakht Zada of Lower Dir and Jan Nawab of Upper Dir succumbed to their injuries.

The police said that condition of the third injured, identified as Khaista Rehman of Upper Dir, was also critical and doctors referred him to Saidu Teaching Hospital in Swat.

In the second incident, a fifth grade student, Abdullah, fell into Khan Khwar river from the dilapidated wooden bridge at Ranyal Besham. Local residents said that Abdullah of Achai Ranyal was coming back home from the local primary school when a plank of the bridge broke and he fell down into the river.

Later, his body was recovered from Khan Khwar dam and handed over to the relatives.
