The National Selection Committee headed by Chief Selector Inzamam-ul-Haq on Tuesday announced a 15-member squad for the ICC Champions Trophy, a statement issued by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said.
"The team has been selected keeping in mind the conditions and the recent performances of some players in domestic and international tours,' the statement said.
According to the PCB's statement, former skipper Azhar Ali has been selected based on his "good track record at English conditions," whereas Umar Akmal was included in the squad due to his "improved fitness and performance in the on-going Pakistan cup"
Sarfaraz Ahmed has been selected as the captain.
"Young Shadab Khan and Fahim Ashraf are retained in the side to give the team variety in the shape of spin and fast bowling all-rounders, respectively," PCB added.
The statement quoted Inzamam-ul-Haq as saying that the squad selected "consists of experience and youth".
It added that selectors are hopeful that the chosen squad will perform well at the upcoming event.
The ICC Championship will be held in England and Wales from June 1 till June 18.

This is the best bunch we have at the moment. The key is to adopt the modern style of cricket i.e scoring at 6-6.5 run per over on average with power hitting during power plays and scoring an average 90-100 runs in the last 10 overs. Unless Pakistan does that top class sides will be extremely difficult to beat. Pakistan may sneak a one-off win based on 'bowling' performances, but winning a tournament like Champions trophy will be a big ask.

The selectors lack imagination. The first four batsmen Azhar Ali, Shahzad Ali, Babar Azam and M. Hafeez has a strike rate in the 70's for ODI. The matches in CT are against India, SA and SL. Simply compare the averages and strike rate of their first four batsmen and see the difference. Sohail Khan is a better batsman, bowler than Junaid Khan. Pakistan only hope is Shadab Khan and spinners.

why in the world we have wahab riaz again in the one day squad? same old faces are playing cricket in the side. Where is the fat bowler who can bowl with left hand and right ? talented youngster are there but we keep those guys who have some connections in the board.
For sure in coming years Afghanistan will move forward and we will still saying oh we are bringing fresh faces.
Why cant we find another shoaib akhtar or waqar younis or wasim akram?

Azhar Ali and Hafeez is that the best selection committee can do than what's the point of having PSL and making big statements about youngsters will get chance. This is so unfortunate when people won't learn from their mistakes. I hope Captain and Coach will pick the best eleven and won't give chance to those who are not ODI players.

No wonder we're unable to make progress in LOI's. When other teams are investing in youth, we keep selecting or bringing back tried and tested failures. An opening of Azhar "tuk tuk" Ali and Ahmed "can't rotate strike" Shehzad will be sending a shiver down the spine of the opposition!

Inzi is not a good selector. He was a great batsman but he isn't a good selector. I think former players should be part of the administration if they are educated. He keeps bringing the same faces again and again and there is no creativity. There is better talent out there but you need creative scouts and not the ones looking after their own self interest.

Don't know why, but, cricket team is treated the same as jobs in Pakistan....... despite there are some good players in KP but the management is focused on Punjab......... no one from Sind interior as well......... With this approach, you'll be struggling always InShaAllah....

Among the CT Teams of other countries, Pakistan seems to be a weaker one, as because they do love to make quick changes here and there preferring to a special region. I think, non performer players like Azher Ali, Ahmed Shahzad, M Hafeez, and W Riaz's inclusion are not for judging on merit, but for involving behind the bar factors. The time will speak what the mess they have done with following a biased selection process!

I cant believe that this four players are in the squad azhar,,wahab,Hafeez,Shezhad do you really think this team is capable of putting up a score of 300 ???? I would of gone for Sohail Khan, Kamran Akmal, Fawad, and Younis Khan at least these score at a decent rate

Pakistan will be missing Sharjeel Heriocs. Only batsman in Pakistan ( i mean who are part of pakistan squad) who can rotate strike as well as hit big. Pure modern day cricketer. I hope he proves clean and take Pakistan forward.

1. If criteria is Performance /Talent /Record ,then "Fawad Alam" and Sohail Khan
should be in the team.
2. Never drop a talent like "Azhar Ali" with out any reason. This approach might destroy
this "The best batting talent" in .
3. No doubt Umar Akmal is one of the best batting talent, but need to work on his physical fitness and mental strength.
