Three Pakistan Army personnel were killed when an improvised explosive device (IED), targeting an army convoy, exploded in Balochistan’s Awaran district on Thursday, said a statement released by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The killed were identified as Captain Taha, Sepoy Kamran Satti and Sepoy Mehtar Jan.

Two other soldiers were also injured in the attack, added the military’s media wing.

Army personnel and other security forces reached the site of the incident and started initial investigations. There was no immediate claim of responsibility.

Awaran is considered one of the most sensitive and troubled districts of Balochistan. The district has witnessed regular attack on security forces in the past.

Militants have conducted attacks against security forces and national installations in Balochistan, which has been plagued by an insurgency and growing sectarian killings for more than a decade.
