Retired IGs’ group terms Sindh govt’s move unjustified

KARACHI: A group of 35 retired IGs of the Police Service of Pakistan have expressed concern over the way Sindh IGP A.D. Khowaja has been asked by the Sindh government to go on leave and termed the provincial government move unjustified.

In a statement sent to Dawn on Monday, the retired IGs said that the Sindh government’s action was unjustified and that an upright and professional officer was being forced to leave his job for not kowtowing to illegitimate wishes of some very influential persons.

They appealed to the prime minister and the chief minister not to allow “this premature transfer of an honourable police chief”.

They also requested the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take notice of what they called flagrant violation of the SC order passed in the Anita Turab case.

“It is high time to fix the tenure of IGs to ensure operational autonomy and depoliticisation of police services,” the statement said.

Syed Masud Shah, former IG of Punjab and KP; Afzal Ali Shigri, former IG of Sindh; Tariq Parvez, former DG of FIA; Shaukat Javed, former IG of Punjab; Tariq Khosa, former IG of Balochistan; and Iftikhar Ahmed, former IG of Islamabad, are among the IGs whose names have been mentioned in the statement.

This is good move every Pakistani has to support such a honest person who is willing to stop corruption in Sindh police. I hope SC will take an action for the restoration of IG Sindh.

Glad to hear that his own seniors are supporting him. This forced transfer is a result of Asif Ali Zardari return. Everyone needs their own people rather in the interest of country. PPP should encourage honest officers rather their own benefits.

Its funny that conscience of Pakistan Government State servants is never alive when they are serving and suddenly springs to life when they get retired.....kuch to sharam karo, kuch to hayaa karo....you did nothing right when you were in service & are now lecturing on what to do...

This action of the Sindh CM has compromised every action that he takes from his official position. In fact, this should be taken as a test case by the Supreme Court under its Suo Moto powers and make a precedent that should become a rule in all such actions in future.

Good move by retired IG's. Because country needs such honest and responsible police officer. IG sind should continue perform duty to curb Corruption in police department and also bring improvement law and order situation in Karachi.Sind government take back their unjustifiable decession.

Sindh Chief Minister sacking IG Police was surprising? It was "not" justified as it was based on politics. Every department in Sindh government has been politicized and corrupted. This is violating and abusing laws. The people fully support demand of 35 retired IGs of the Police Service of Pakistan, to reinstate this honest and upright officer, as it was gross injustice by the Sindh government. No political party or government can abuse laws or be above the law.
