Indian batsman Virat Kohli climbed to a career-best second place in the Test rankings Tuesday after his third double century of the year helped the hosts seal their series victory over England.
Kohli, who is in the form of his life after striking his third double ton of the year, jumped a place in the Test table and is in line to top the rankings in all three forms of the game.
Kohli, who is currently ranked second in ODIs and tops the Twenty20 chart, is just 11 points behind Australia captain Steve Smith in the International Cricket Council Test ratings.
Dubbed 'King Kohli' by the media, the Indian skipper hit a career-best 235 at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium over the weekend as his team romped to victory over England in the fourth match of the five-Test series.
While India consolidated their ranking as the top Test side, the Alastair Cook-led England are in danger of losing their second place if they lose to their hosts in the fifth and final Test in Chennai starting Friday.
Third-placed Australia and fourth-ranked Pakistan will be looking to displace England during their three Test series starting with the day-night Test in Brisbane on December 15.
Meanwhile Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who has claimed 27 wickets in the four matches so far, comfortably held on to his top Test spot in the bowlers' chart.

He is second best thanks to playing on home dead wickets. His average against England in India is 400 but his average against England in England is 4. Last time when he came back from England's tour he was not in the top 10 batsmen.

@Irfan-Sydney what one can expect from a day dreamer like you? You don't have guts to praise Kohli. Atleast go through Inzamam statement today. He condemned Anderson comments on Kohli. Ask PCB to search a player like Kohli and emerge them as compititor to BCCI.

This entire Indian team like many others before it are home bullies. They are absolutely mediocre away from India. Kohli was a miserable failure against the same team in 2014. It is the stupidity of ICC that its ranking system for teams and players takes no account of the huge difference in playing at home and away. Had the ranking system been based on home and away performances, flat track bullies like Kohli and Ashwin would not be in the top ten.

One off season doesn't make him worthless. As I said elsewhere, he has matured in tha past two years.
But if you are so insistent on NOT looking at Kohli's overall OVERSEAS stats, let's see what Javed Miandad has to say about Kohli: "“I think the Indian batsmen work very hard on their own game and are hungry for runs. Kohli is an example.” Google it.
But maybe you know more than Javed Miandad

@Irfan-Sydney Come on buddy, give credit where it is due, all players score their maximum runs at their home ground (in 52 matches Kohli (starting in 2011) has scored above 4000 runs and that includes 15 hundreds and 14 fifties).

@Irfan-Sydney Not a single PAK batsman till date has amasses 10,000 runs in tests, a feat achieved by Gavaskar nearly 30 years ago. Younis Khan has just 6 tons outside Asia including 1 in ZIM which tells he can bat in Asia only. He's still playing for 10,000 runs more than anything.

One rule for India and one rule for the rest of the world.

KOHLI started playing test Cricket in 2011 . England tour that most are talking about was with in year plus of his journey.
Please grant him that this five years of experience has taught him to be a mature player unlike some who score in first one or two years and no one hears about them there after.
