LAHORE: The International Day of Persons with Disabilities was observed at the Rising Sun Institute for Special Children, DHA Campus, on Saturday.

Commander 4 Corps Lt Gen Sadiq Ali, the chief guest, distributed prizes and certificates among the special children.

Addressing the gathering, Lt Gen Ali said the provision of congenial environment for better upbringing of children with mental and physical impairment was moral and social responsibility. He said a little effort on part of society could help the special children explore their capabilities to overcome disabilities. He urged the philanthropists and affluent members of society to come forward and contribute to this noble cause. Lt Gen Ali lauded the dedication of faculty members of the institute in working for welfare and rehabilitation of special children and advised them to promote these positive values among other segments of society as well.

The other speakers include Parveen Tawwab, president of Rising Son Education and Welfare Society, retired Lt Gen Khalid Maqbool, retired Lt Gen Shahid Iqbal and Mahmood Ahmad.

Earlier, the special children also performed a tableau.
