KHAIRPUR: It is the need of the hour that people must shun their petty differences and neglect personal biases so national institutions could flourish in a better environment of love, peace and harmony.

This was stated by Shah Abdul Latif University (Salu) vice chancellor Prof Dr Parveen Shah while speaking at a programme held on the campus in connection with the Sindh culture day celebrated with enthusiasm and fervour on the campus on Thursday. The event was organised by the Salu Employees Welfare Association.

A culture awareness rally, led by the VC, was also taken out from the administration block to Kojhi hall. She planted a sapling in the lawn outside the hall, according to a press release.

Speaking to the faculty, students and employees present there, Prof Shah appreciated endeavours of the Sindhi media for organising cultural events across the province. She said days should also be observed on certain other issues like promotion of education, women empowerment, environmental degradation, social problems, tolerance and interfaith harmony so as to ensure and present a soft image of Sindh and Pakistan.

As part of the event, a Malh (local wrestling) competition was also held. Wrestlers Babu Sheed from Lasbela (Balochistan), Nazeer Bhatti from Shahdadkot, Babu Bhatti from Karachi and Ali Nawaz Maitlo, Nazar Ali, Aqeel Maitlo and Nasrullah from Khairpur participated in the competition.

Ali Nawaz Maitlo secured the first position to win a Rs15,000 cash prize while Nazeer Bhatti and Aqeel Maitlo clinched the second and third positions to claim Rs10,000 and Rs5,000 cash prizes, respectively. A Kabaddi competition was also held.

A large number of officers, employees and students witnessed the events.
