KARACHI: A sessions court turned down on Saturday the bail application of an assistant professor at Karachi University’s psychology department in a case registered under the Prevention of Electronic Crime Act (PECA), 2016.

Prof Farhan Kamrani was arrested last month for allegedly posting fabricated photos of a woman teacher, who has been working as a visiting faculty at the KU, on a Facebook page.

The suspect through his lawyer moved a bail application and after hearing arguments from both sides, district and sessions judge (East) Fahim Ahmed Siddiqui, who was also designated as a judge to try cybercrime cases in the province, rejected the application.

The Federal Investigation Agency has booked the suspect under Section 21 of the PECA and Section 500 (defamation) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
