War against terrorism, LoC situation to be main responsibilities of new army chief: Asif

Defence Minister Khawaja Mohammad Asif on Monday said that completion of ongoing counter-terrorism operations would be the responsibility of the new army chief.

As the countdown to appointment of a new army chief begins, the defence minister on a TV show said the new chief of army staff (COAS) would have to carry forward the success and legacy of outgoing COAS Gen Raheel Sharif.

The war against terrorism, the situation along the Line of Control and Working Boundary, and alleged Indian aggression in Pakistan through Afghanistan will be among the major responsibilities the new army chief will have to focus on, Asif said.

The Pakistan Army and its new chief will have to carry forward the tradition of success maintained during Gen Raheel's three-year term.

The army has earned goodwill and respect, he said.

why is the Government totally silent on recent surge of Indian violations of LOC and even naval intrusions? It is responsibility of Government to immediately highlight all such violations of India to UN and to all nations to show that India is trying to provoke Pakistan to find excuse to start a bigger conflict. The war mongering by the Indian politicians, electronic media and press is also part of this plan..

It is highly expected that the new Army Chief will continue to follow the legacy of his predecessor, and will show his renewed commitment to safeguard borders and root out terrorism in all forms through out Pakistan and mostly importantly Karachi, which only witnessed peace and tranquility in a transient period of General Raheel Shareef, and the people wish that it would be continued with the same dexterity by successor.

@Sab Se Pehle Pakistan: Don't you know the general rules of business? Defence Minister is the boss of all the chiefs of defense services. Even Defense Secretary is higher in the official Warrant of Precedence and maintains the service books of the all the chiefs of armed forces.
