LAHORE: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of police claimed to have arrested two members of a militant organisation involved in attacking the bureau office of a private news channel in Sargodha last year.

Some unidentified attackers had hurled a grenade at the Sargodha bureau of Express News channel on Dec 7, 2015 in which a security guard was injured and the building was also damaged.

A CTD spokesman said their team in Sargodha conducted a raid near Chungi No 9 and arrested two suspected members of the militant Islamic State group and recovered two hand grenades, explosive material, four detonators, one pistol and a motorcycle.

The suspects were identified as Zeeshan Mehboob and Zahidur Rehman who were shifted to an undisclosed location for interrogation.

He said a case was also registered against the suspects at the CTD Police Station.

Last year, the Lahore office of Din News and Faisalabad office of Dunya News were attacked in which three employees were injured.

On Nov 30, unidentified gunmen attacked a Dawn News Digital Satellite News Gathering van in Essa Nagri, Karachi leaving one staffer injured.

The attacks were widely condemned by all sections of society and journalist organisations had announced protests.
