KARACHI: The seventh Sindh Golf Association (SGA) Cup which teed off at the Defence Authority Country and Golf Club (DACGC) on Friday has received an enormous response with approximately 200 golfers vying for honours in various categories.

The three-day event formally begun with a nine-hole veteran’s event in which 18 golfers participated.

The battle for supremacy in the amateurs, seniors, ladies and juniors starts on Saturday. The amateurs and seniors will compete over 36-hole while the ladies and juniors will contest over 18-holes.

DHA’s Zohaib Asif, who won the amateurs title defeating his club-mate Waseem Rana in a nail-biting finish last year, is among the 72 golfers who have registered in this category.

The two golfers are expected to face a tough challenge from Sajid Khan and M. Sharif among others.

According to draws, 48 contestants have entered the fray in the seniors besides 16 ladies, 24 golfers in juniors under-16 and 12 in the under-18.

The course has been prepared well for the event and promises exciting contests over the weekend.

Formerly known as the Sindh Governor Cup, the SGA Cup was launched some seven years back and is a regular event of the SGA calendar.
