There should be an equal share of water. Share of 80/20 between Pakistan and India is unjust and need to be rectified.

For God's sake, stop this madness and for once come to senses. God has ways to redress arrogance in a big way. Be fearful.

We should introspect what makes India to take such a cruel decision. Get international negotiators to resolve all issues & keep friendly relations. Kashmir issue also negotiated and settled with mutual consent between India & Pakistan as it is detrimental to the progress of people of Indian subcontinent.

I think Mr. Modi is a great, responsible administrator with a planned future vision. He will never break the treaty. As a powerful nation India have some responsibilities towards their neighbours. The flow of water should never be stopped in any condition cold war or hot war, whatever it be. However the Indus waters treaty is very old and must be reviewed, the 8:2 ratio should be changed to a balanced level to improve the water availability & economy of Jammu and Kashmir.

Indus water can be diverted to Punjab,Haryana,Rajasthan,Gujrat and Maharashtra like Indira canal in Rajasthan which made northern Rajasthan favourable area for crops. Govt.of India should speed up the project to interconnect different rivers as it has planned.

I don't think this treaty was in Pakistan favour at all. We should look at reviewing it anyway. Modi's policies against Pakistan should be used in a way to get maximum benefit for Pakistan. Peace should prevail and hatred should vanish. Everyone has the right to choose their future which is the basic principle of democracy, which unfortunately the so called largest democracy in world doesn't realise.

@Rawal Jogi Indus Basin is a huge basin..much of it lies in present day pakistan..Historically, present day Pakistan used to receive even greater shares than now..80/20% division is according to geaographical size of basin on each side..so No special generosity to pakistan..IWT is even for both sides; infact, pakistan had to build huge infrastructure following the loss of 3 eastern rivers ..INDUS is our river, just like Ganges is yours..

India being a responsible nation will never break the IWT treaty whatever low the relationship may go and this review meeting is not to stop but to make the treaty on equal basis as 80:20 ratio is considered by many in India as unfair so at least if any change will be made in future then the most likely is 50:50 but complete stop is out of question. But still i think given now population size than what it was during the signing of IWT treaty in 60's then i think this 50:50 will also be very damaging for Pakistan.Therefore why not opt for better option?? I suggest talk to India and offer some concrete proposal quid pro quo.let IWT treaty goes as it is and Pakistan too will become a responsible nation and take out terrorists targeting neighbors thus freeing itself from bad perception world wide.Isn't a good good both both??? Presently India Pakistan water share in IWT is 81-19, 81 Pak, 19 India. Future India Pakistan water share in IWT would be 19-81,19 Pak, 81 India. REVERSAL OF WATER SHARE IN IWT IS NEEDED.

It is high time that Pakistan gets serious about developing its own water resources like building dams and water conservation. One of these days India will fully control its water flow in Pakistan

Please solve the problem of Cavery river water between TM and Karnataka. Indus is too far and too many parties interested in that . It will take years even the present leaders will be dead by that time.

How biased Indian commentators can get. This is the only source of water for Pakistan where as India has other rivers to fulfill it's needs. The Indus already flowed this way. So the treaty is quite fair.

I used to hear story story about a beautiful small river which used to flow in our town of Jamalpur Syedan in Gujrat where my forefathers used to swim, fish and cool down during the summers. It has been dry since the Indian diverted the water before my birth. Only a dry bed of sand remains as a testimony of what once was, just two generations ago. Messing with the Indus Water Treaty, which gave India 3 out of 5 Punjabi rivers Beas, Sutlej and Ravi, will be an act of aggression

@Usmaan Yes China can also do the same to India in Brahmaputra but since India has many rivers so if it want it can mitigate that risk by interlinking its different rivers withing India sans Brahmaputra but yes some money and constructions India need to do before this.Anyways still in Brahmaputra report says around 70% of the river water on Indian side is through rain and 30% is in control and comes from China but still Brahmaputra will not completely dry out if China completely stops it due to 70 % rain factor.But it also has problems cuz if China want's to punish India through Brahmaputra it will also hold the lifeline of Bangladesh as well.

Desperate times call for desperate actions. India is/was trying to corner Pak instead it finds herself in the corner as eyes of the world are fixated on Indian atrocities in IHK. Though it is a political stunt by Mr Modi as it is simple that any unilateral action on any of Pak - India treaties will further isolate India in the world. What Mr Modi does not understand is that no world power or any world leader will support his actions where two nuclear armed countries are concerned. Every country will advise him to lower the tensions and not increase them. Right now Pak and India are a headache for the world that won't go away. The world want the two countries to resolve all issues between them themselves and here Pak has an advantage over India because where Pak is ready to discuss all issues with India without any preconditions, India is not. Therefore, right now India is in a tight spot and all saner elements within the country are warning the leadership to stop this menace.

India has the incease of water consumption in near future.So it is better to move out of any one sided gesture of IWT and build dams and resorviour as much as possible in the himalayan water sources.

Indus water anyway goes into the Arabian sea without much use. India might make good use of it.

The treaty should be scrapped. Its unfair to india. Pakistan should receive according to its population which is one sixth of india. so, the ratio of water sharing should be similar.

Indus Water Treaty is valid only when there is good will between India and Pakistan, presently there is no good will between India and Pakistan and hence the treaty can be reviewed or completely scraped.

Oh please ! Someone should go and read the treaty before making erraneous comments. As a part of the agreement India was given control over the eastern rivers while Pakistan was given access to the western rivers. However since rivers flowing into Pakistan were coming through India, therefore India was allowed to use 20 percent of the water for irrigation purposes and still keep a hundred percent of the water from the rivers which were allotted to India.

Not in favour of policy review now as it will send a wrong message to Pakistan awam and farmers .PM had addressed them from Kozhikode and urged them to work towards alleviating poverty,illiteracy and social evils .. How can he now think of chocking their water and thereby affect cultivation. Need discussion..

The treaty was signed almost 56 years back and its been lauded as one of the best trans-border water sharing treaty world over. This just shows, if both nations can be serious and sincere to a cause, It can withstand any upheaval. However, the time is apt to rework the treaty since a lot has changed since its inception. Needs of J & K state are to be considered. Representatives from J& K need to be part of any dialogue on the treaty, since it concerns their future the most.

Review of any bilateral treaty has to be ratified by both parties and the guarantor, if any.

India need to erect a dam at Jhelum river and create a reservoir that would include Srinagar. All the residents can be relocated to Pakistan, who is clamoring to have them. The waters and electricity can be used throughout Kashmir, Jammu, & Laddakh region. Any surplus can be exported to other states.
