RAWALPINDI: A woman was shot, allegedly by her cousin, on her wedding day on Sunday just a few metres from the wedding hall on Chakri Road, police said.

Amina Bibi, 27, was being driven to the marriage hall from a beauty salon when her car was intercepted by two motorcycle riders.

Police said one of the motorcyclists had been identified as her cousin, Mohammad Zubair. He allegedly shot her while she was in the backseat of the car, killing her on the spot. The killers then fled.

SHO Yar Mohammad told Dawn the bride was shot four times.

A preliminary police investigation suggests that the deceased’s cousin was opposed to her marriage, which was arranged by her parents outside the family.

A murder case has been registered with the Saddar Bairooni police, based on a complaint from the mother of the deceased. The body was handed over to the family.
