LAHORE: It is the responsibility of the people and parliament to choose and elect honest, sincere and truthful representatives, says Dr Tahirul Qadri, chairman of the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT), while talking to party leaders here on Tuesday.

The PAT chief alleged that due to the corrupt and unjust electoral system, only those leaders went to parliaments who either bought votes and election staff or had huge political influence and were able to throw their weight around.

He said the day people used their voting power judiciously and understood that they could change the system, their problems would stand solved.

Dr Qadri said Pakistan needed a well-educated and honest leadership, which could take the country to the heights of development with their bravery and honesty. He said this responsibility lay on the shoulders of the people who voted to send their representative to assemblies.

He said the gap between rich and poor had grown to such heights that the country had turned into a barren area. The poor were finding it difficult to feed their families while the rich had amassed so much wealth that they did not how much they had.

The leaders who called on Dr Qadri included Khurram Nawaz Gandapur, Fayyaz Warraich, Noorullah Siddique, Sajid Bhatti, Jawad Hamid, Shakir Mazari, Rafique Najam, Tanveer Khan, Irfan Yousaf and Farreh Naz.
