LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court on Tuesday extended for further four days physical remand of the mother and brother-in-law of teenager Zeenat Rafiq torched by her family for marrying a man of her choice.

Factory Area police investigating officer produced Parveen Bibi and Muhammad Zafar before the court and said further custody of the suspects was required to complete investigation into the murder of the girl. The court accepted the request and extended remand of the suspects for another four days.

Police said Zeenat was burnt alive by her mother, brother and brother in-law in her Mast Iqbal Road house for marrying a man of her own choice.

Police registered a murder case against the suspects. Police also obtained physical remand of the victims’ brother the other day.

BONDED LABOUR: A Lahore High Court bailiff on Tuesday recovered 24 labourers, including women and children, from illegal detention of a landlord of Mandi Bahauddin.

The bailiff produced all the recovered labourers before the court that set them at liberty.

Nazir Ahmad had filed a habeas corpus petition before the court pleading that his relatives had been working for landlord Malik Iqbal as a bonded labour for years. He alleged that the landlord detained the labourers.

He prayed to the court to get the detainees recovered from the illegal detention of the landlord and set them free. The court had deputed a bailiff that raided the place of the landlord and recovered 24 people. The court also directed the police concerned to take action against the landlord on the application of the detainees.

REMAND: An anti-terrorism court on Tuesday extended physical remand of a UC chairman of PML-N in a Samanabad double murder case.

CIA personnel produced Saleem Chaudhry along with other suspects before the court and sought their further custody to complete investigation of the case.

The court accepted the request and allowed the police to keep custody of the suspects for four days.
