LAYYAH: Two men allegedly threw acid on their brother to dissuade him from pursuing the marriage dissolution case of their sister in a court of Karor Lal Esan.

Muhammad Tariq, a resident of Mauza Murad Ali, was returning home after appearing in the family court for marriage dissolution of his sister Bashiran Mai when his brothers Muhammad Ramzan and Muhammad Sajjad, who were following him on motorcycle, threw acid on him and sped away.

Tariq suffered burns and was taken to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital from where he was shifted to the DHQ hospital due to his critical condition. Dr Mehboob Qureshi, the medical superintendent, said Tariq suffered burns on left side of the face, his lower abdomen and legs.

Karor SHO Muhammad Riaz told Dawn that police had registered a case under section 336-B, 7 ATA against Sajjad and Ramzan.

DROWNS: A teenager drowned while bathing in Paharpur Canal about 40 kilometres away from here on Friday.

Muhammad Waseem, 18, son of Ghulam Shabbir, went to the canal to beat the heat and during bathing he slipped into the deep waters and disappeared. Divers later fished out his dead body. The district administration had already imposed a ban on bathing in the canal under section 144.
