KARACHI: The ministry of defence production and the Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works (KSEW) signed two contracts on Friday for the construction of two tug boats and a multipurpose barge for the Pakistan Navy.

Material for the construction of two 32-ton Bollard Pull tugs would be supplied by a South Korean firm and the tugs would be built at the local yard, said a KSEW statement.

The tugs would be used for berthing, dry movement and towing etc of ships and other vessels of the navy. The KSEW had already built a tug for the navy.

The multipurpose barge would be based on an indigenous design and will provide pollution-control services to the navy.
