ISLAMABAD: The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) on Wednesday cleared 14 development projects, mostly in the energy sector, including a Gwadar-Nawabshah pipeline for Liquefied National Gas and its processing terminal at Gwadar at a cost of Rs1.114 trillion.

At a meeting, presided over by Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal, the CDWP technically cleared four major projects worth Rs1.104tr and recommended the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) to approve them.

The four major projects that were recommended to Ecnec included Gwadar-Nawabshah LNG terminal and pipeline project (GNP), procurement of 75 diesel electric locomotives (55 engines of 4000-4500 HP & 20 of 2000-2500 HP) at a cost of Rs45.796bn, upgradation of railway’s existing mainline -1 (ML-1) and establishment of a dry port near Havelian and improvement and widening of N-45 (130.22 km) at a cost of Rs870.472 bn.

In the energy sector, the CDWP approved rehabilitation of NTDC system in the southern region for improvement in system reliability to avoid frequent tripping at a cost of Rs1.064 bn. It requested the Ecnec to approve Gwadar-Nawabshah LNG Terminal and Pipeline Project (GNP) at a cost of Rs168bn.

In water resource and environment sector, the CDWP approved Sindh Resilience Project (SRP) at a cost of Rs2.495bn and establishment of glacier monitoring network at a cost of Rs892.481 million.

The CDWP also approved replacement of two generating sets of 1000kv (one MW) workshops division Moghalpura at a cost of Rs160m.

The CDWP also recommended to Ecnec improvement and widening of N-45 (130.22km) at a cost of Rs19.643bn and approved construction of Nahqi Tunnel, Mohmand Agency, Fata at a cost of Rs2.428bn.

The CDWP also approved construction of road from Zera to Dabori, Orakzai Agency (Fata) at a cost of Rs1.947bn.

In information technology, the CDWP approved Computerisation of PM Secretariat (Phase-II) at a cost of Rs123.945m and approved replacement of 10KW medium wave transmitter at DI Khan with 100KW medium wave transmitter under USAID programme and shifting of broadcasting house to new site at a cost of Rs314m.

In the governance sector, the CDWP approved research and feasibility studies and workshops project at a cost of Rs249.26m and also approved Pakistan’s productivity, quality and innovation initiative at Rs250m.

The CDWP also cleared position paper of construction of accommodation for Bhittai Rangers at Karachi at the cost of Rs2.870 bn.
