CHESTER-LE-STREET: England captain Alastair Cook’s feat in becoming the youngest player to score 10,000 Test runs won’t be the only record he sets in his career, according to former skipper Nasser Hussain.

“His greatest thing is his stubbornness and taking the hard path. I really don’t think there’s ever been an England player mentally stronger than Alastair Cook,” said Hussain.

He added: “He’s got an authority and aura about him now, his captaincy has gone from strength to strength and you can’t argue with it.”

10,000-run Test club:

Sachin Tendulkar (India) 15,921 runs in 200 Tests; Ricky Ponting (Australia) 13,378 runs in 168; Jacques Kallis (South Africa) 13,289 in 166; Rahul Dravid (India) 13,288 in 164; Kumar Sangakkara (Sri Lanka) 12,400 in 134; Brian Lara (West Indies) 11,953 in 131; Shivnarine Chanderpaul (West Indies) 11,867 in 164; Mahela Jayawardene (Sri Lanka) 11,814 in 149; Allan Border (Australia) 11,174 in 156; Steve Waugh (Australia) 10,927 in 168; Sunil Gavaskar (India) 10,122 in 125; Alastair Cook (England) 10,042 in 128.
