JHANG: Fourteen people were killed and 13 others injured in a road accident on the Jhang-Khushab road, some 50 kilometres from here, on Saturday morning.

Sources said that a bus going from Karachi to Chakwal collided head-on with a mini-truck coming from the opposite direction. Carrying cattle merchants, the truck was going from Attock to the Maloana cattle market.

All those who died in the accident were travelling in the truck.

According to police and Rescue 1122 sources, the accident occurred near the Nasirabad bus stop. They said 10 people died on the spot and the 17 injured were rushed to the district headquarters hospital in Jhang. One of the injured died before reaching the hospital and three succumbed to their injuries while being treated in the hospital.

The deceased were Abdul Rasheed, Kamran, Mohammad Ali, Mohammad Shakeel, Bukhseesh, Hafiz Nazakat, Arshad, Mohammad Azhar, Mohammad Akram, Mohammad Asif, Musa Khan, Babar Ali, Sher Abbas and Mohammad Nauman.

Most of the deceased are reported to be residents of Attock who were going to Maloana cattle market, 20km from Jhang, to buy cattle.

According to an eyewitness account, the truck driver was presumably under the influence of drowsiness and had lost control over the steering wheel.
