GILGIT: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday performed the groundbreaking of the Pakistan-China Optical Fibre Cable project which is part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), Radio Pakistan reported.
The $44 million, 820-kilometre-long cable project stretching from Rawalpindi to Khunjerab will be completed by the Special Communication Organization in two years.
Upon completion, the project, which will provide an alternate telecommunication route between Pakistan and China, will also bring 3G and 4G connectivity to the region, Nawaz said.
Nawaz also inaugurated the Gilgit-Baltistan CPEC patrolling police headquarters in Gilgit, Radio Pakistan reported.
The patrolling force comprising 300 personnel will help regulate traffic along a 439km chunk of the CPEC in the area. China has provided 25 vehicles for the patrolling force.
The premier announced the establishment of a technical training institute in the region. "We will initially set aside Rs100 million for this project," he said.
Nawaz stressed the need for preparedness for a newer knowledge-based economy. "These development projects will help reduce extremism," he said, pointing towards a lack of employment in as a driver of militancy.

Nawaz Sharif, YES please go to each and every opening ceremony for photoshots - as if you are financing these projects from your own pocket and NEVER tell the masses how you got tens of billions of money and how you transferred it to your overseas accounts. You have handed over each child a begging bowl by illegally transferring money out of Pakistan and its a joke that you ask foreign companies to invest in Pakistan.

At the rate of project ground breaking, inaugurations and openings of motorways and airports, I think NS is in a race to turn Pakistan into Dubai by 2018!??
Or all in a vane attempt to distract public from lingering questions about his offshore wealth and sources thereof... When I am driving on one of these motorways, I will be thinking how much somebody got as a kick back from this project?? And how many flats it bought them in London??

What is it that Nawaz sharif's government offered to the region? Its all part of Chinese investment. This corrupt man, unfortunately imposed on us through election rigging is a stigma on the face of good politicians. We are not fools to give him credit for fiber optic and and patrolling force. In GB there is only 1 university, what has his government done to the region? PM is busy in corruption and defending it, we want justice and demand him to step down, we are fed up with this system which is only benefiting few ruling families. We need to caste this curse away which is being imposed on us in the name of democracy which is actually worst form of autocracy. Panama Leaks have revealed their real face which they had been hiding from common men.

Our respected PM did nothing to uplift the status of GB. This project was already a part of CPEC. GB is ignored in every sector. Health, education and infrastructure are the most neglected sectors. Failed to provide a de jure status for GB, is another concern. If GB's progress and prosperity is attached with Kashmir liberation then it is raising serious questions in every sane mind. Despite of PML(N) goverment, it has failed miserably to address the pathetic and worsening situation of GB.

As they say, miracles do happen. Impossibles take time!
Miraculously, the PM seems to be on a roll to launch one project after another, to look busy, concerned, progressive and seeking rapid development of Pakistan at a pace unprecedented.
On the other hand, none of these initiatives and fancy project ground breakings are going to change the fact that the PM has amassed huge wealth outside the country, from dubious sources, and possibly circumventing Pakistani election laws and tax regulations.

What a great hypocrisy, the master mind behind all this is facing humiliation of Article 6 charges and a hypocrite is inaugurating these projects. Hats off to General Musharaf vision for Pakistan in the fields of education and economy. His Higher Education reforms and short term development projects from Infrastructure Uplift in Northern Area to Makran Coastal Highway/ Gawadar Port are already producing fruits and Long Term projects started by him like CASA 1000 will produce fruits for long time. History will always see Pakistan in division of Pre and Post Musharaf time periods.

The state's perpetual problem is it needs to do a lot but never has enough money. Pakistanis are to blame for not paying their taxes honestly. That is the root cause of why you lack facilities in your area. Fix that and the rest will fix itself.

4G brings development my friend. It allows those people to connect to the internet and make use of it for their benefit not to mention providing job opportunities for internet cafes, and following which, the training of programmers from the region.
you need to open your mind a bit. Like the Chinese Proverb if you want to develop build a road. Internet communication is like a digital road allowing access to modern technology and knowledge.

Dragged Peshawar to dirtiest coty in teh world, dragged KPK to lowest developed province, no education ficus, budgets made but not utliized. INSHAALLAH if CPEC works out well Pakistan can easily pay the debt. Remember South Korea at one stage was in similar position and and didnt get CPEC bonus. Now it depends on the people of Pakistan to elect the right leader which is Imran Khan and trust me Pakistan will see massive change!

This P.M has truly made Pakistan developed and we have some respect when we travel Internationally. Rightly said P.Ms humble personality, good character wins many hearts. PMLN always performs. Nawaz Sharif takes credit as if it was he who initiated these CPEC projects. Actually these were suggested, offered, financed, planned, and are being constructed by our friend the Chinese. CPEC had been in planning since 2002 when Parwaiz Musharaf lnaugrated Gawadar port. Nawaz Sharif's only achievement is Orrange Train, Metro buss and even these are financed by the Chinese.
