KARACHI: Well built Army sportspersons have maintained their stranglehold with a rich haul of 14 gold medals in the National Taekwondo Championship at the end of the second day at the NED University of Engineering and Technology gymnasium on Sunday.

The soldiers, who clinched seven of the 14 golds in different categories of the poomsae event by Saturday evening, completed the rout by adding the remaining seven to their tally when the curtains fell on the opening day.

The soldiers’ arch-rivals Wapda had to be content with second slot with a collection of eight silvers and three bronze while Railways are placed third on the medals table with five silvers and two bronze medals.

Hosts Sindh has so far picked up six bronze medals.

Meanwhile, eight events — male -58kg, -68kg, -80kg and +87kg and female -46kg, -53kg, -62 and +73kg — had reached the final stage at the time of filing this report on Sunday evening.
