RAHIM YAR KHAN: Around 50 people suffered from food poisoning allegedly after taking unwholesome meal at a wedding function at a village near Zafarabad on the National Highway, some 70 kilometres from here, on Friday night.

Reports reaching here said some of the guests started vomiting after they ate Biryani (rice dish) served them at a wedding ceremony held at Basti Baloachan, Mauza Tibbi Sayyedan village, near Zafarabad Town.

The condition of more than two dozen people turned serious who were shifted to Khanbela rural health centre (RHC) from where the doctors referred them to the Shaikh Zayed Medical College Hospital (SZMCH) because of lack of treatment facilities.

Some 28 other affected people were shifted directly from Basti Baloachan to SZMCH for treatment.

SZMCH Principal Dr Ghulam Mustafa Arian told Dawn that 42 patients -- 11 children,16 women and 15 men -- were shifted to the SZMCH at 2:30am on Saturday.

He said according to initial findings they suffered from food poisoning after eating unwholesome rice dish served to them at a wedding.

He said after being provided the first aid and administered drips, most of the patients were discharged from the hospital early on Saturday.
